Since she invoked the draconian powers of the Emergencies Act, The Mad Queen, Justin Targaryen Castro Trudeau, has had to deal with these facts:
Poll saying he looked weak in his handling of the crisis.
· 48 percent believe Trudeau “is not up to the job of being prime minister.” Only 35 percent say that he is.
· Only 16 percent said that his handling of the Freedom Convoy made them want to vote for him.
· 63 percent actively discouraged to do so.
· 53 percent believe that Trudeau has not acted in a way befitting a prime minister in the face of the protests.
Province Premiers criticized his decision.
· Alberta Premier Jason Kenney: “I am concerned that there’s a certain kind of person who will hear if the federal government proceeds with this, who will be further enflamed, and that could lead to a prolongation of some of these protests”.
· Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe: "[his] administration does not support the Trudeau government invoking the Emergencies Act. (…) If the federal government does proceed with this measure, I would hope it would only be invoked in provinces that request it."
· Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson: Trudeau’s move is “unnecessary” and provocative. “The use of the Emergencies Act is very, very serious, and needs to be considered very seriously before enacting something like that”.
· Quebec Premier Francois Legault: “the Federal Emergencies Act should not, must not, apply in Quebec. (…) I think that at this moment, it would not help the social climate. There’s a lot of pressure right now, and I think we have to be careful. We really don’t need to throw oil on the fire.”
· Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford: “These measures should be targeted and time-limited.”
It also doesn't help that the Ottawa chief of Police resigned.
I wrote this week: Castreau is in a long lineage of people who don't know the first thing about running a country, but know a lot about ruining a country, and are absolute masters at retaining power in a country. Cubans like his dad Fidel and uncle Raul Castro. Venezuelans like Hugo Chaves and Nicholas Maduro. These guys are tough to topple. And they have no limits to the cruelty and suffering that they are prepared to impose on their subjects.
It is still true, but it bears mentioning that things, so far, don't seem to be going his way. The truckers have only to wait him out. He is the one who needs to win every interaction. They just have to hold the line.
On the other hand, the Truckers are hailed by conservatives all over the world as heroes.
But what are the new super powers that the Mad Queen has?
The New York Times, that never saw a tyrant it didn't love, has a piece filled with the most euphemistic description, almost enthusiastic. Let's pluck this Mockingbird to see what's there.
'Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took the rare step of declaring a national public order emergency' (Rare = unprecedented) in a push to end protests that have paralyzed the center of the Canadian capital for more than two weeks and reverberated across the country.
(…) '[this will] allow the government to take a variety of steps, including freezing bank accounts of protesters, to clear the blockade of about 400 trucks in Ottawa and smaller protests that have closed border points in Alberta and Manitoba.'
Variety of steps = it's a blank check. 'Steps', the clean, distant word for tyranny.
'(…) The invocation of the Emergencies Act confers enormous, if temporary, power on the federal government.'
Enormous = it's tyrannical, unacceptable level of power. Temporary? It seldom is.
'It allows the authorities to move aggressively to restore public order, including banning public assembly and restricting travel to and from specific areas. But Mr. Trudeau and members of his cabinet offered repeated assurance that the act would not be used to suspend “fundamental rights.”'
Move aggressively = use violence against non-violent protesters. The Times totally trusts the word of the Mad Queen and her cabinet. And they say no “fundamental rights” will be suspended ***while they freeze the bank accounts of the opposition***.
It's not like the Mockingbirds don't have some criticism towards Castreau. They think he has been too soft on the protesters!
'The response by the police and all levels of government to the crisis, which included an almost weeklong blockade of an economically critical border crossing with the United States, has been widely criticized as inadequate. Mr. Trudeau, some critics contend, should have intervened earlier and perhaps even deployed troops to break up the protest.'
This is American lib lunacy to the max.
'(…) Canada’s justice minister, David Lametti, outlined a wide array of special powers now at the government’s disposal.'
Special Powers = dictatorship.
'(…) The police will now be able to seize trucks and other vehicles used in blockades. (…) Tow-truck operators, who have been reluctant to cooperate with the police, will now be compelled to work with law enforcement agencies to clear Ottawa’s streets and the border crossings at Coutts, Alberta, and Emerson, Manitoba.'
You may be able to legally compel a towing company, of course, but if the drivers don't agree to participate, then what? A chain gang of slave tow truck drivers? That does not sound well thought through.
This might work well in Cuba in 1960, but in Canada 22 Castro just shot himself in the belly. Cue the drawn out death rattle.
