Without divulging too much personal information, let's just say that I have very valid personal reasons to hate Lula and his PT party more than the average thinking Brazilian.
I believe he is the most dangerous politician to have spawned in this country in the twentieth century, which is quite the 'compliment' given the other members of this viper den called Brazilian politics.
However, I was just reminded these last few weeks that it takes me absolutely no effort to support measures and decisions by him in the preciously rare moments when he happens to be right.
Yes, because like a broken clock that is right twice a day, Lula also gets the eventual lucky shot, almost like a statistical oddity.
However, in the last days, another set of circumstances have conspired to move Lula to undo some of his mistakes.
The fact is that Lula, when it comes to his Foreign Policy, tries to serve multiple masters: the Latin-American socialist network 'Foro de São Paulo', Russia and China, who are historically masterminds of our left, Globalists of all stripes and statures, from George Soros to Leo Di Caprio, and - that's the novelty of this last election cycle - the Biden State Department from hell and the CIA.
It's a very tough balancing act that he is proposing to engage in, and one his is unlikely to achieve. Lula has a incredibly inflated opinion of himself, and is surrounded by flunkies who perpetuate these falsities in his mind.
The most salient point in which this multiplicity of 'masters' expresses itself, of course, is the Russians Special Military Operations in Ukraine.
Even during the campaign, Lula mastered the art of insulting and angering both Russians and Ukrainians with his improvised statements.
He famously said that he could easily negotiate peace, he just had to sit down and have a beer with Putin and Zelensky. Both sides reacted so poorly that the joke here in Tupiniquim lands became that they'd stop the conflict to declare war on Brazil.
After he was installed in the sham 2023 elections, his administration has given contradictory signals to the international community.
On a first moment, Lula seemed to be repaying Biden's support and following the western NATO/Globalist line: Brazil was the only BRICS country to vote in the UN to condemn Russia, which burned a LOT of Brazilian political capital in the group.
Next, Lula's inane Foreign Relations minister had the audacity and the stupidity of declaring that, since Brazil was a part of the ICC, Vladimir Putin would have to be arrested if he set foot in Brazil. < facepalm >
That sent shockwaves around the planet, since it was said during the historical summit between Putin and Xi Jinping. The Chinese reacted by postponing Lula's visit to China, and he had to lie, as he always does, and say that he had some 'light' pneumonia.
Since then, Lula has done a 180 and started to behave more like the historically leftist guy he is: on a more recent vote, in the Security Council of the UN, Brazil refused to condemn Russia, to the chagrin of Blinken and his minions who whined their disappointment, having supported Lula because he was 'pro-democracy'.
That was a 'broken clock' Lula moment, but he was going to have another one, when he stated that 'NATO should not be expanding up to Russia's borders'.
Besides being a leftist talking-point, it also happens to be, in my opinion, a bona-fide geopolitical truth: promises and assurances were made to Russia during the fall of the Soviet Empire, and they were all lies.
So, yes, I celebrated the 2 right moves by the Lula administration right as I work to repel his whole domestic agenda.
The world is a complex place.
Self-adoring Lula must have thought he was on a roll, so he decided to comment of the ongoing Brazilian diplomatic efforts to broker a peace with his usual improvised free-flow of 'ideas', one of which was 'his opinion' that Ukraine should give up its Crimea claim in exchange for peace.
The Ukrainians were once again enraged, and while I don't give two fucks about Zelensky and his Nazi goons, I also think that foreign dignitaries should not comment on Wars with the levity one would use to talk about a soccer match.
This week, Lula finally goes to China, like so many other heads of state, flocking to the new diplomatic axis of the multipolar world.
Some sources say that Brazil is to present a joint peace plan for Ukraine along with the Chinese, which would be a great idea, since China is the only power that can effect real change for peace, once the Biden-led US and the frankly detestable NATO are determined to fight until the last Ukrainian.
This could give broken clock Lula a fine moment, which he desperately needs, since his administration is a sham, and he is already plagued by Congressual investigations on several issues.
I will continue to track Brazil's confusing Foreign Policy as Lula tries to serve his many masters. The hope is to eventually supplant him with a leader that will serve the only acceptable masters: the Brazilian people.
Brazilian Constitution: 'All the power emanates from the people'.
