'Should we talk about the weather? Should we talk about the government?' (REM - Pop Song 89)
April is finally winning the battle against the summer. For days on end the atmosphere was at war, the cold and hot air masses clashing, with one getting the upper hand just to be supplanted a couple of days later.
But now, whatever cold weather we get to have in Rio is finally inbound. That's always great news for my writing, since it much more agrees with me.
In these 9 first days of April I have managed to publish 9 articles on the Gateway Pundit, and one exclusive here in Substack (this one you are reading).
10 articles in 9 days is quite the output. I wasn't sure I could pull it off, but it turns out I can. The hard part is to have a daily routine of reading and reading to spot the stories and source them responsibly to make the story simple to write.
Now, the challenge is not only to write, but also to find an audience. The sudden change of pace in the writing has an impact on this 'newsletter/blog'. Instead of receiving the odd weekly or bi-weekly article, people here in the War Blog are receiving emails from me almost every single day, and sometimes twice a day.
I fully expected this to be a trying experience to some people, and it was. I have been losing more subscribers than gaining ever since this process began.
As I have written previously, there's absolutely no way I was going to pass on an opportunity to write for one of the most read news sites on the US.
After my first month doing it, I think I have glimpsed a way in which I can save some time to write more exclusive content here for this Substack.
That is sure to add more value for this space, but at the same time it will mean that the 'fed up people' will be receiving even more emails with more articles - and hopefully, better ones, because whatever cold weather we get to have in Rio is finally inbound.
It's raining outside, and for some reason it is better to be a writer when the temperature is kind to my complexion and the rhythm of the falling rain dampens the noise of the mean metropolis.
There's a fight ongoing between this platform and Twitter. Without getting too much into it, I must only say that I appreciate the focus of every statement by the Substack people, always focusing on valuing the writers and giving them the best possible recompense.
This is a small blog, with very few - but very valued - paying subscribers. And in this last weeks, it 'had to play second violin' in the orchestra that is my online presence in a number of different platforms.
Now, I think I can have the best of both worlds, here. To have the daily struggle against the merciless, relentless news cycle AND to have exclusive content in much the same way I had before - both in terms of more in-depth articles, and also texts like this one that are a conversation with the readers.
In the meantime, I wish you all a very blessed Easter. God bless you all.
God bless you!🙏
Me? I like the emails. They serve as reminders!
